A familiar voice to KMOX Radio listeners has died.

Jim Butler was 76. He died Monday of pneumonia in California. He moved to San Francisco after retiring from KMOX in 1989.

Butler, a native of Olney, Illinois, was a morning personality on KMOX in the 1950s and later hosted a nighttime program on the St. Louis radio giant. His show was so popular he was once declared the night mayor of St. Louis.

He later became part of the KMOX management team. Butler worked at the station from 1951 to 1989.

Butler was active in charity work, mainly reading for the blind.
